The welfare of our pupils is at the heart of everything we do. We work closely with children, families, staff and external agencies to ensure that concerns are identified early and appropriate support is provided. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, happy and secure.

Reporting a Concern

If you are worried about a child, it is important that you share your concern as soon as possible.

You can contact a member of our Safeguarding Team directly by telephoning the school office or by emailing:

safeguarding@becket.derby.sch.uk  

If you believe a child is at immediate risk of harm, contact the police on 999.

You do not need proof that something is wrong in order to share a concern. If something does not feel right, please speak to us. We will listen, take your concerns seriously and take appropriate action where necessary.

Attendance and Safeguarding

Regular school attendance plays an important role in keeping children safe, connected and supported. Children who attend school regularly are more likely to access learning, build positive relationships and receive support when needed.

At Becket Primary School, we recognise that attendance difficulties can sometimes be linked to wider wellbeing, family or safeguarding concerns. We take an inclusive approach to attendance and work closely with families to identify barriers and provide support at the earliest opportunity.

If you are concerned about your child's attendance, wellbeing or circumstances at home, please contact a member of our Inclusion or Safeguarding Team so that we can work together to help.

Online Safety

Technology provides children with wonderful opportunities to learn, communicate and explore. However, it is important that children learn how to stay safe online and use technology responsibly.

At Becket Primary School, online safety is taught through our curriculum, assemblies and wider safeguarding programme. Children learn about:

• Staying safe online
• Respectful communication
• Cyberbullying
• Online gaming safety
• Social media awareness
• Privacy and personal information
• Misinformation and online content
• Reporting concerns and seeking help

We encourage parents and carers to take an active role in supporting their child's online safety and to talk regularly with children about their online experiences.

Operation Encompass

Becket Primary School is proud to be part of Operation Encompass.

Operation Encompass is a national initiative that supports children who may have been exposed to domestic abuse. Through this partnership, schools receive timely information from the police when a child has been present during or affected by a domestic incident.

This enables us to provide appropriate support, understanding and care for children when they arrive at school.

The wellbeing and welfare of our pupils is always our priority.

The Prevent Duty

Schools have a legal duty to help protect children from radicalisation and extremism.

At Becket Primary School, we promote values such as respect, tolerance, democracy and individual liberty through our curriculum and daily school life. We encourage children to think critically, respect different viewpoints and understand how to keep themselves safe.

Staff receive regular training to help identify potential concerns and know how to respond appropriately.

If you have concerns about a child being vulnerable to radicalisation, please speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Children's emotional wellbeing is an important part of safeguarding.

We recognise that children may experience worries, anxiety, low mood, bereavement, friendship difficulties or other challenges that affect their wellbeing. Early support can make a significant difference.

Our wellbeing offer includes:

• Pastoral support
• Nurture provision
• ELSA support
• Emotional check-ins
• Wellbeing interventions
• Signposting to external services where appropriate

Early Help and Family Support

Sometimes families need extra support before problems become more serious. Early Help is about identifying needs early and providing support at the right time.

Support may include:

• Multi-agency working

Our aim is to work alongside families to achieve positive outcomes for children.
