Equality and Accessibility

Our Commitment to Equality

At Becket Primary School, we celebrate diversity and are committed to ensuring that every child, family and member of staff is treated with dignity, respect and fairness. We strive to remove barriers to participation and achievement so that every child can thrive.

Accessibility at Becket

At Becket Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child can access, participate in and enjoy all aspects of school life. We believe that every pupil should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential, regardless of their individual needs, abilities or circumstances.

As recognised through the Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence, we actively seek to identify and remove barriers to learning and participation so that all children can access a broad, balanced and inclusive education.

Our Accessibility Commitment

Our Accessibility Plan focuses on three key areas:

  • Increasing access to the curriculum
  • Improving the physical environment
  • Improving access to information and communication

Accessibility is about more than physical access. It is also about ensuring that pupils can access learning, communicate effectively, participate fully in school life and feel a genuine sense of belonging within our community.

Accessible Learning for All

We strive to ensure that all pupils can engage successfully with learning through:

  • High-quality adaptive teaching
  • SEND provision and targeted interventions
  • Nurture and wellbeing support
  • Specialist SEND spaces, including The Den and The Hub
  • Access to assistive technology and visual support resources
  • Staff training in areas such as autism, attachment, trauma and inclusive practice
  • Close partnership working with external agencies and professionals

Physical Accessibility

We continually review our environment to ensure it is accessible and welcoming for all pupils, families and visitors.

Our commitment includes:

  • Accessible toilet facilities
  • Consideration of individual access requirements
  • Inclusive educational visits and residential experiences
  • Clear signage and visual communication throughout school
  • Safe and accessible indoor and outdoor environments
  • Ongoing review of accessibility arrangements as our school community grows and changes

Accessible Information and Communication

We recognise that families access information in different ways and are committed to making communication as accessible as possible.

This includes:

  • Translation support where needed
  • ClassDojo communication with translation features
  • Visual supports and Widgit symbols
  • Accessible website content
  • Support for families who may require assistance accessing information
  • Alternative methods of communication where appropriate

Working Together

We value the views of pupils, parents and carers and regularly gather feedback to help us improve our provision. By working in partnership with families, staff, governors and external agencies, we continue to develop an environment where every child feels valued, included and able to succeed.

Removing Barriers to Learning

At Becket Primary School, we recognise that every child is unique and that some children may face barriers which can affect their learning, wellbeing or participation in school life. We are committed to identifying these barriers early and providing the support, adjustments and interventions needed to help every child succeed.

Support may include adaptive teaching, SEND provision, pastoral support, attendance support, ELSA, Nurture provision, specialist interventions, assistive technology and partnership working with families and external agencies. We believe that inclusion is about removing barriers rather than expecting children to overcome them alone.

Through our inclusive approach, we aim to ensure that every child feels valued, supported and able to access the full range of opportunities available at Becket Primary School.

Diversity and Inclusion

At Becket Primary School, we are proud of our diverse and inclusive community. We believe that every child, family and member of staff should feel welcomed, valued and respected, regardless of their background, identity, beliefs or individual needs. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we celebrate the unique experiences, cultures and perspectives that make our school community special.

Through our curriculum, assemblies, enrichment opportunities and daily interactions, we promote kindness, respect, fairness and understanding. We actively challenge prejudice and discrimination and help children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become respectful and responsible members of society.

We are committed to creating a culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging and where differences are celebrated. By working together with pupils, families, staff and the wider community, we strive to ensure that every individual is known, valued and able to flourish.
